Another star brand pistol has been recovered, ask police officials told ChimpReports on Sunday.
“The Pistol was recovered from Kisenyi Zone- Naluvuule in Wakiso District by the kids at a rubish pit on Saturday, sale ” said the OC CID Wakiso , Detective ASP Harriet Kenyana.
She said the arm was wrapped in a polythene bag.
The kid who picked it alleged that he thought it was a toy pistol and fired though he never injured any body.
Police said the arm was identified as ‘star pistol’ with five rounds of ammunition.
This development comes hardly a fortnight after a star pistol was found abandoned in Kigoowa, Ntinda, Kampala.
It was also found by kids, according to police.
The source of these Chinese-made weapons remains unclear.
ChimpReports understands that Special Forces Command, Police and Military Intelligence no longer use this type of arms.
But it’s highly possible these guns are being used to commit crimes in the country.
Several high profile people have been shot dead in Kampala in recent years including prosecutor Joan Kagezi and AIGP Andrew Kaweesi.
Kenyana said the recovered pistol was exhibited and that statements were recorded from the children and neighbours.
She further said some locals’ fingerprints were taken by detectives.
No suspects have been held in this matter but Kenyana said an inquiry is underway to establish the source of the weapon.
The Commander Kampala Metropolitan Area recently gave the Wakiso police chiefs a timeline of one month to address the public outcry over crime.
