Another City Pastor Arrested While Preaching During Ban, Police Vows to Take Him to Court

Police in Kampala on Wednesday arrested yet another Born Again Pentecostal church pastor, who was caught red handed conducting a church service amid the ongoing ban on such religious gatherings.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Patrick Onyango identified the suspect as Pastor Rashid Mutebi, of the Blessed Feelings Church International which is located in Kajjansi.

The Pastor was found on Wednesday preaching at his church before a congregation of up to 30 people.

These too, Onyango says were arrested.

President Yoweri Museveni late last week suspended or church and mosque gatherings and also shut down all education institutions as the country intensifies the fight against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus.

Several church leaders in and outside Kampala have been caught defying the Presidential directives.

But while all these have been released with caution by police, Onyango told us that Pastor Mutebi will not be released.

“For this one we are holding onto him; he’s in our custody and we are taking him to court,” Onyango said.

“The other 30 congregants, we cautioned them and let them go, but the pastor is with us.”

Uganda as of Wednesday has 15 confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
