Buganda road court magistrate Stella Amabirisi has granted bail to events organizer Andrew Mukasa aka Bajjo, who is accused of inciting violence and offensive communication
“Court finds that all sureties that were presented to court are substantial and grants the applicant bail” ruled the magistrate.
Bajjo was released on a cash bail of 4 million shillings, while each of his 3 sureties he presented was ordered to sign a non cash bond of 20 million shillings
The court also retained the national identity cards of all sureties until the matter is fully heard and disposed off
The magistrate overruled the state prosecution’s earlier objection presented as an oath by the investigating officer in the matter, who claimed that the accused was most likely to make more inciting statements
She agreed with defence counsel Erias Lukwago that the oath didn’t have the names of the commissioner or the address where it was sworn, which contravenes sections 1,2 and 3 of the Oath Act
The matter has been adjourned to 25th of July 2019 for mention
Prosecution contends that during the month of June 2019 at various places of Masaka, Ibanda and Kampala wilfully and repeatedly with intent to disturb the peace and privacy of the person of the President, Bajjo recorded an audio and posted it on social media containing inciting messages using his mobile phone
