Amuriat Set to Be Charged at Mbarara Magistrate’s Court

FDC Presidential candidate Patrick Amuriat Oboi is set to be arraigned in court following his early morning arrest at Omunkombe village in Rubirizi District.

Police officials told ChimpReports that Mbarara Police was on Friday afternoon finalizing plans to charge  Amuriat at Mbarara Magistrates Court.

Amuriat was arrested on Friday morning for instigating a fracas which saw the Mbarara District Police Commander (DPC) John Rutagiira knocked by a bodaboda which was carrying the presidential candidate.

At the time of the incident, Amuriat was on his way from Isingiro district where he had held successful rallies in Isingiro town, Nyamuyanja and Bukanga.

Samson Kasasira the Rwizi Regional Police Spokesperson said last night that Amuriat defied lawful orders and “opted to use porous routes from Isingiro district through Buremba road in Kakoba Division where he was intercepted at Bishop Stuart University with intentions to go through the main business centre of Mbarara city”.

“The DPC of Mbarara SP Rutagiira John, in the process of stopping them, a scuffle ensued and Motorcycle registration number UEX 650D that was carrying Hon. Patrick Amuriat Oboi knocked the DPC to the ground though he didn’t sustain any serious injuries,” Kasasira stated further.

This morning, Amiriat was arrested on his way to Rubirizi and driven to Mbarara.

At Mbarara CPS, Amuriat refused to record a statement until he is granted access to his lawyers.

Meanwhile, Police in Mbarara is hunting for the motor cycle rider who is on the run on charges related to “careless driving and causing an accident under the TRSA, Mbarara CPS TSD10/03/12/2020”

On Wednesday, Police charged Amuriat’s driver a one Mr.Nasuru Basarirwa for disobeying lawful orders and partaking in a protest.
