Amin Takes NRM Flag in Kibanda Polls

Kibanda North Constituency final results released last evening by the NRM Electoral Commission Vice Chairperson John Arimpa Kigyagi put Idi Amin Taban in a landslide victory with 12,812 votes.

Sam Otada finished second with 2, 761 while George Baitera Maiteki took the third position with 1,472 votes.

The party’s internal primaries were conducted to determine the official flag bearer in this by-election.

Kigyagi said the elections were free and fair to all concerned parties.

The Abrupt Court Order

Just minutes after the release of the results last evening, the Party Secretariat learnt of an interim court order issued on July 14, 2017 restraining the conduction of the same exercise.

It’s however worth noting that the applicant of this order, Otada, was until the last minute part of the entire process and attended the joint campaign meetings supervised by the party’s EC till the end.

This matter has now been left to our Legal Committee to follow it up to its conclusion.

The party however congratulates Amin for winning the elections and the rest of the members for their peaceful participation.
