Senior Female Foreign Service Officers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gathered together to celebrate and give a warm send-off to one of their own, order Amb. Rossette Nyirinkindi Katungye, this site who was recently appointed as Technical Advisor on Regional Integration of the Bureau of the African Union Commission Chairperson. She will be leaving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after 28 years in the Diplomatic service on the 22nd of April 2017.
Amb. Katungye, viagra 100mg a career diplomat, joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989 as a Foreign Service Oficer Grade VI and was appointed to the rank of Ambassador in 2009; She has served in key managerial positions as Deputy Head of Mission at the Permanent Mission of Uganda to the UN in Geneva (2011-2015); in New York as a Counsellor and Minister Counsellor; She was offered appointment as Director, Regional Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2015. Speaking in praise of her achievements and recalling his own 33 years in the Foreign Service, Permanent Secretary Amb. Patrick Mugoya stated the Amb Katungye’s success was because she had proved to be committed and dependable. He encouraged all the other officers present to continuously aspire to these values.
The Foreign Service is a traditionally difficult field for career female Foreign Service Officers and the rate of attrition is very high due to family and social pressures.
Speaking on behalf of the female career officers, Amb. Santa Laker-Kinyera a long-time friend and colleague stated that Amb Katungye has broken the proverbial glass ceiling and set an example that all her female colleagues, particularly those that have just set out on the career path, could emulate.
Amb. Katungye expressed gratitude to the Ministry and to colleagues for providing a support system for her throughout her career. To the more junior officers present, “bide your time, do the right thing, don’t compromise your morals and values and you will shine” she said.
Amb. Katungye, has hitherto served as a Director for Regional Cooperation, in charge of Africa and the Middle East, supervising Ugandan Ambassadors in the region; She has also served on Uganda’s APRM Governing Council is a trained lawyer LLB (Hons), environmentalist and human rights expert, with extensive experience in organizing international conferences.
She holds a Master of Science Degree, Diploma in Legal Practice and several Post Graduate Certificates in different specializations. She speaks English fluently, has a working knowledge of French and Swahili and basic skills in reading and writing in Arabic and is a published author in academic and social fields.
The colorful send-off was attended by a cross-section of officers of all Foreign Service Grades.
