The stage is set for the first ever Kampala Night Run happening Saturday in Uganda’s capital.
The two kilometre run, launched Thursday morning at Torino Bar, will cover the areas of Kololo and Lugogo Bypass.
Kampala Metropolitan Police PRO Luke Owesigire revealed that police will be ready to ensure the successful turn of events.
“As Uganda Police, our mandate is to serve and protect. It is therefore our responsibility to ensure that everyone taking part in the run is safe,” Owesigire revealed.
He further warned unlawful individuals or groups with intent to cause a breach of security during the event to stay away.
The event also received praise from Kampala Capital City Authority with Robert Kalumba, the authority’s deputy spokesperson heaping praise on the organisers’ creativity.
“We are proud of this innovation and we are ready to work proactively towards its realisation,” Kalumba said.
Being on a Saturday, the event will tamper with the usual flow of traffic around the areas of Lugogo and Kololo.
The route will involve runners setting off from Torino bar, heading for Upper Kololo through Impala avenue, onto Lugogo Bypass and back to Torino bar.
To top off the night, revellers will be treated to an after party with performances from Fik Fameica, Beenie Gunter and Allan Toniks.
One will have to part with 30,000 UG Shs. to take part in the run.
Tusker Lite are the headline sponsors of the event.
