Starting Time: 5pm (Registration: UGX 10,000, Kshs 300)

Dove Chess Academy will hold the second edition (first online) of the Independence Day Junior Chess Championship on Friday 9th October, 2020.


This year’s edition is expected to attract over 200 participants and is open to contestants from the neighbors Kenya.

According to Christine Namaganda, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dove Chess Academy, the one day event will play a fundamental role in educating the younger generation about the history behind the independence day.

“Uganda will be celebrating it’s 58th anniversary since getting it’s independence on the 9th of October 1962. So we started this tournament last year with an aim of celebrating the independence day with the chess fraternity specifically the kids,” she said.

With the major aim of developing leadership capacity through the “game of Chess”, the tournament hosted by Dove Chess Academy (DCA) will be held via due to the Coronavirus pandemic fighting efforts that restrict gathering.

Woman Fide Master Namaganda also noted that the one-day online event will be played in four categories including Under 10,12,16 and 20 by both Boys and Girls.

The tournament will also be played basing on the Swiss System of Nine rounds with 10 minutes per player to finish.

Any interested participants with the desire to be a part of this competition are required to register at a fee of shs. 10,000 before the deadline on Friday at 1pm.

The best three players in each category will walk home with cash prizes of (Shs 35000, 25000, 15000) plus Electronic certificates of participation and players must have a lichess account atleast 3 months before the deadline.
