Debate on lifting of the constitutional presidential age limit may not take place today Thursday as anticipated, Chimp Corps report.
Security forces today swung into action to avert possible violent riots in Kampala following reports that MP Raphael Magezi would today seek leave to present a private member’s bill seeking amendment of article 102 (b).
The article provides that one can only be president if he is above 35 years of age but not beyond 75 years.
But it appears the matter is not listed on today’s order paper.
Some of the items set for today’s discussion include sale of plots of land in Namanve Industrial Park, utilisation of $200m from PTA Bank and mismanagement of women and youth fund among others.
Officials say the order paper can be amended to take into consideration other equally important items.
The mood remains tense following the arrest of key opposition leaders resisting plans to amend the constitution.
But several NRM MPs expressed support for the amendment, saying it is discriminatory.
Others said it would allow President Museveni stay in power to steer the country to greater heights.
