Hearing of a case against seven Police officers including former commander of Special Operations Nixon Agasirwe before Makindye General Court Martial yesterday failed to commence, after the defense lawyers failed to show up in court yet again.
The lead State Prosecutor Major Raphael Mugisha informed court that he couldn’t reveal any update regarding the investigations since none of the defense lawyers was in court
The defense lawyers who include Caleb Alaka Evans Ochieng and Frank Kanduho didn’t send any communication to court explaining their absence.
Nixon’s co accused include the former Commandant of Police Professional Standard Unit ACP Joel Aguma, SPC Katende Faisal, Assistant Superintendent of Police James Magada (Crime Intelligence), Sgt Abel Tumukunde of the Flying Squad, AIP Benon Atwebembeire and D/Cpl Amon Kwarisima, attached to the Crime Intelligence Department.
There is also a Rwandan national Rene Rutagungira and Bahati Mugenga Pacifique also known as Ilungu Monga, a Congolese national
The officers are accused of being in unlawful possession of ammunitions and kidnap of 3 Rwandese nationals whom they allegedly conveyed to their country against their will.
It’s further alleged that the 7 police officers Kidnapped Joel Mutabaazi and Jackson Kaleemera on the 25th/October 2013 at Kammengo in Mpigi district.
The police officers have been remanded back to Makindye Millitary police barracks and other accused to Luzira prison
Before remanding these back, court chairman Lt. Gen Andrew Gutti ordered the accused to make sure that they communicate to their lawyers before the adjournment date of 26th/June 2018
