Beninese Afro-pop star Angelique Kidjo has on Tuesday 30, noted how good African music is in the whole World.
The singer revealed this at Isaiah Katumwa’s concert that was held at the Kampala Serena Hotel.
Donned in a green flowered dress (kitenge), Kidjo hit the stage at 11:00Pm and gave fans enough dose of her songs such as Batonga,Malaika, Agolo and Wombo lombo among others after her colleagues Katumwa,Chris Lang and Darren Rahn had equally left the fans in cloud 9.
“I always say and I will say this until my last breathe on this earth, that Africa has given Music that we listen to today that’s why I wanna record it; Jazz, folk, hip hop and classical music.
I have been traveling around the world and I have seen that as a choice, because I am not afraid of doing any kind of Music with anybody, even classical, I do sing it in my language because Africa is where everything started,” said Kidjo.
The World jazz day show was the concert we needed in 2018. Kidjo is indeed an energetic performer who brought her fans down with Afro-infused beats, delirious love songs and pure records.
She was later on backed by Katumwa,Darren and Chris Lang, who gave an electrifying performance.
As the show neared its end, elation, call it exhaustion, consumed the band and fans ,as they were called on stage to dance with Kidjo, they burst into a song that prompted everyone to dance as if there were no bones in their bodies at all.
During the show, sparkling song tributes included, Mowzey Radio, Salsa great Celia Cruz, that kept things chill, spirited and good-natured. It left those who attended over the moon.
Attending Kidjo’s show is just like going to a good therapy session. Sure, the show was louder than a traditional therapy session may be, but above all, it was probably just as inspiring and enjoyable.
Fans really kept their confidence in Kidjo, Rahn and Lang in their abilities and yes…there came Congolese Charmant who is known for playing guitar with his teeth.
They turned up the night, rather Victoria hall into a moment that the fans will live to remember.
Kidjo has been touring and performing at different venues and stadiums around the world.
The singer, songwriter and activist, is a woman of many talents who has earned a lot of respect not to mention an impressive music career with great influence around the world.
Surely, she is a full-blown international pop star and her energy on stage, was one of the finest Uganda had the pleasure of experiencing this year.
At exactly a half past midnight, something terrible happened that no one wanted to see, the band finally disbanded.
