It was all sorrows as Uganda Cubs were bundled out of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Ugandan youngsters started the tournament -their first ever- on a wrong foot narrowly losing 1-0 to Angola in the first match.
They bounced back and won their first ever point in a 3-0 smashing of neighbours Tanzania but failed to crack Nigeria in a do-or-die on Saturday in the final group A match.
John Kokas Alou gave the nation hope with his strike in the 69th but the Ugandan backline that had remained resolute for 220 minutes failed to contain the two-time champions.
Ibrahim Jabaar equalised just five minutes after Alou’s goal to ensure parity.
In the other match played, Angola thumped Tanzania 4-2 to progress as group A runners-up with six points.
Nigeria wins the group with seven points, Uganda in third with four and Tanzania with none.
On top of progressing to the semifinals, both Nigeria and Angola have booked their slot in the under-17 World Cup to be held in Mexico later this year.
