Just like his captain Denis Onyango mentioned in his first pre-match press conference, Emmanuel Okwi has credited their commanding 2-0 win over DR Congo to teamwork.
Okwi’s and a first half header by Patrick Kaddu gave Uganda the inspirational victory that set the tempo in their AFCON group A.
“We worked together as a team because that was our best strategy.”
Okwi who was voted man of the match started “our aim was to work together rather than individually so as to achieve our objectives.”
The Simba SC striker believes that the upcoming games especially Zimbabwe on Wednesday and Egypt over the weekend will be tougher because the opponents are now aware of the threat posed by the Cranes.
“We have to step up and work harder. We expect tougher challenge after this win because now the opponents will come well aware of what we can do but we shall work hard to counter that,” he added.
The win was Uganda’s first at the continental stage since 1978.
