Despite their comfortable 2-0 win over Uganda, Egypt national team coach Javier Aguirre was left wowed with the resilience that the Cranes showed on Sunday night.
Mohammed Salah and Ahmed Elmohamady scored in the first half to ensure the Pharaohs finish with a clean record of three-in-three.
Aguirre praised the Ugandans for their constant threat in the Egyptian goal despite the huge margin between the two sides.
“ I was surprised by Uganda’s strong performance especially in the first half because they managed to control the game, and pressed a lot. We managed to score the first goal early and then the second goal that allowed us to kill the game,” the Mexican stated.
According to the official statistics, Uganda managed 49 percent of possession, 17 shots on target, ten more than Egypt and forced the Pharaohs to concede 9 corner kicks to one.
Uganda and Egypt both advance to the next round.
