AFCON: Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania Fail To Replicate Uganda’s Heroics

Of the four East African nations in Egypt for the AFCON, only the Uganda Cranes have managed to win their first game.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles had to dig deep to drill a 1-0 win over Burundi on Saturday. It had to take the efforts of second-half substitute Odion Ighalo to break the Intamba m’Urugamba’s resilience with only 13 minutes left.

On Sunday night, both Tanzania and Kenya’s Harambee stars failed to pick a result as they went down in identical 2-0 losses to Senegal and Algeria respectively.

Keita Balde and Krepin Diatta grabbed the two goals for the Lions of Teranga while Baghdad Bounedjah and Manchester City’s Riyadh Mahrez did for Algeria.

Kenya and Tanzania will return to action on Thursday 27th June when they face each other in a Cecafa derby.

On the other side, group C favourites Senegal and Algeria will tussle.

Both fixtures will take place at the 30 June stadium in cairo.
