Uganda Cranes easily registered a 2-0 home win against Malawi during the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations group B qualifier played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole on Sunday November 17th.
Emmanuel Arnold Okwi and Fahad Bayo scored in the first and second half respectively to ensure that Uganda cement a win.
Okwi scored in the 29th minute after receiving a long ball from Joseph Ochaya which he calmly controlled before slotting home.
The Johnathan McKinstry side looked for a second but failed on different occasions including Farouk Miya’s chance which was denied by the woodwork.
Finally in the 66th minute Bayo scored the second after getting a free ball from defender Lucky Malata and calmly slotted past goalkeeper Brighton Munthali.
A win took Uganda to four points from two matches while Malawi who beat South Sudan in the opener remained on three points.
The game marked Uganda Cranes’ return to Namboole after 366 days when Uganda hosted Cape Verde in the AFCON 2019 qualifiers.
In the other game of the same group, Burkina Faso beat South Sudan 2-0 in Khartoum to move to four points level with Uganda Cranes.
