Tanzania’s Taifa Stars are have qualified to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations after thumping Uganda Cranes 3-0 in their last group L fixture played at thr National stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Tanzania needed just a win and pray that that Cape Verde doesn’t lose to Lesotho in Praia and it happened. The Emmanuel Amunike-coached side won convincingly as the other game in Praia ended goalless.
After a dull opening 20 minutes, the hosts went ahead through Simon Msuva. The striker had pounced on a loosely cleared cross by Allan Kyambadde before slotting from range to Onyango’s far post.
Erasto Nyoni doubled the tally five minutes after the breather from the spot after Kirizestom Ntambi handled a cheeky pass from Taifa Stars captain Mbwana Samatta.
Aggrey Morris sealed the victory eight minutes later heading in John Bocco’s cross from the right lane.
The victory sends the Swahili-speaking nation to the continental showliece for the first time in nearly four decades.
How Uganda lined up
Frenchman Sebastian Desabre opted to alter almost half of the starting team that played in the previous match against Cape Verde in Kampala.
Murshid Juuko, Khalid Aucho, Denis Iguma, Hassan Wasswa and Isaac Muleme’s names were all absent as the coach fronted local-based Timothy Awany, Taddeo Lwanga and Allan Kyambadde together with Kirizestom Ntambi.
Denis Onyango started in goal shielded by Awany, Wadada, Walusimbi and Ntambi.
The midfield had Lwanga sitting deep, his VipersSC teammate Waiswa, Miya and Kyambadde tasked with creating the chances as Okwi and Kaddu searched for the foals upfront.
