Cape Verde Islands 3-0 Tanzania
Cape Verde Islands earned a convincing victory against Tanzania to move top of the table in group L of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Despite starting the campaign on a low note including losing to Uganda at home and drawing away to minnows Lesotho, Cape Verde came out of the blocks on match day three to outwit Tanzania.
The game played on Friday at Estadio nacional Cabo Verde in Praia saw the hosts secure a comfortable 3-0 win.
Ricardo Jorge Pires Gomes struck twice in the first half while defender Ianique do Santos Tavares commonly known as Stopira added the other goal in the second half to guide Cape Verde past the Taifa Stars.
Gomes who plies his trade at FK Partizan in the Serbian Premier League opened the scores a minute after the break befofe adding the second seven minutes later.
Stopira put the icing on the cake with the third goal towards the end of the game to register the first win in the campaign.
Lucio Antunes charges moved top of group L on four points same as Uganda while Lesotho and Tanzania have two points apiece.
Tanzania will host the Blue Sharks on Tuesday in the return leg. On the same day, Uganda who play Lesotho on Saturday will be in action against Lesotho in Maseru.
The top two teams in each group qualify automatically to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
