Celebrated singer Dr. Jose Chameleone was officially unveiled by Democratic Party on Wednesday July 3, as its flag bearer in the 2021 Kampala Mayoral elections.
Flanked by his mother Proscovia Mayanja, his brothers Weasel and Pallaso, the ‘Wale Wale’ singer was officially welcomed by the party president Nobert Mao.
“Whichever position he seeks, he will win. Chameleone brings new energy to the party”. A beaming Mao told journalists.
Chameleone revealed that his decision to join DP was informed by the fact that the party runs deep in his veins as his family has been its longtime supporters ever since way back.

Rumors sweep the internet that he will be following in the footsteps of a number of Ugandan singers who have since joined politics with sources close to him intimating that he will be standing for Lord Mayor in the 2021 General Elections. Chameleone neither comes out to confirm nor deny the “rumors.”

Chameleone confirms he will indeed be vying for the Kampala city top seat, revealing he had served the music industry diligently and left his mark and now it was time to turn his focus into politics.
He said he was compelled to reach the decision following pressure from the Boda boda riders.
“I didn’t have this idea, but it started from the people of Kampala themselves especially the Boda boda riders who keep asking me to stand. They say I am the right person for the position.”

Chameleone embarks on several consultation visits to different parts of Kampala asking if he should take the leap into politics. He commences the consultations with a visit to his birthplace Kawempe, to ask the people to bless his journey.
“I started my music journey here and you were the first people to support and push harder. Today I begin a new journey and I seek your blessings like you did with my music journey 20 years ago.”

Chameleone denies being affiliated to any political party, contrary to circulating reports linking him to NRM and People Power. He rubbishes the reports and declares himself an independent candidate.
“I intend to come on with an independent ticket. I do not belong to any political party and I don’t hold any party card.”
