Who is Efya?

Efya (née Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor) also formerly known as Miss Jane is a Ghanaian singer-songwriter, composer and actress. Efya was born on the 10th of April 1987, in Kumasi, Ghana, but later moved to the capital Accra with her mother Nana Adjoa Awindor (now Nana Hemaa Adjoa Awindor) who relocated to attend film school at NAFTI.

Music Career

Career history

Although she had been singing since she was about 9 years old, Efya didn’t take it seriously as a potential career choice until she auditioned & gained national recognition in 2008 as the first runner up of CharterHouse talent search show Stars of the Future. Prior to making music, she had dabbled in everything from understudying her mother in film production to athletics in Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ High School.

Her participation in the contest landed her on the music scene when she and the winner, Irene Logan, signed a three year recording deal with the event company but ended up recording only one group debut, titled Irene & Jane Unveiled, which was released in South Africa only.

Because her appearance on the scene was through CharterHouse, Efya was able to secure a slot on the entire media giant’s subsequent events with which she gradually built a buzz. However, her contract with CharterHouse eventually concluded and she found herself a free agent once more and began to juggle playing shows by night while she read Theatre Arts, Directing & Music at the University of Ghana, Legon during the day time.

To date, Efya has played countless gigs, averaging 2 or 3 appearances a week and has been featured by artists in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa etc. all of which has helped her build a vast following. She is presently putting the finishing touches on her highly anticipated debut studio album, Love Genesis, slated for a first quarter release in 2013.

Personal Life

Efya is the first born of her mother’s three children. Born in Kumasi, she relocated to Accra when her mother moved to study at NAFTI film school. The nature of her mother’s ensuing career “Greetings From Abroad” saw a young Efya traveling around the world extensively. Imbibing several cultures along the line, she took up Ballet & athletics. Two disciplines she practices to this day.
