Uganda To Host Commonwealth Local Government Conference

viagra geneva;”>While addressing journalists at the Media Centre, prescription State Minister for Local Government, here Hon. Alex Onzima said this will be the first time for the conference to be held in Uganda and East Africa.

“The conference will bring together a cross section of development and will attract over 800 participants,” said Onzima.

He therefore noted that hosting the conference was in line with government’s efforts to foster good governance by deepening the decentralization policy.

“The conference will provide an opportunity to the local businessmen to supply goods and services during the conference,” he added.


In her remarks, Suzan Rhodes, Head of Communication at the Commonwealth Local governments Forum noted that the conference will be hosted in Uganda as a reward for being the best country in Africa at practicing decentralization.

She further noted that 54 countries will participate in the conference.

In an exclusive interview with our chimp corp, Director Local Government Administration in the Ministry of Local Government, Patrick Mutabwire asserted that the conference will help make an overview of how local governments can work best using local resources.

He further appreciated the government for increasing on the given to the local government.

“In 1993, local government was getting Shs 3.1 billion from the central government which has now increased to Shs 1.8 trillion in the budget,” said Mutabwire.
