Adventurous and fun loving Ugandans are rubbing hands for a mega trek up the Rwenzori Mountain in Kasese district with American Super model Marlina Morena, and a mega party at the foothills thereafter.
Uganda Tourism Board [UTB] announced today morning that the Friday 17th trek, in which model Morena has confirmed participation, is meant to arouse local and foreign visits to the country’s tallest mountain.
The leading Los-Angeles-based super model, TV host, former National Football League [NFL] cheerleader, Model for NIKE, Samsung, Canon, Virgin Atlantic and Siemens, Marlina Moreno is expected to profile Uganda’s major tourism attractions and produce a documentary to be aired to millions of Americans through her travel platforms Examiner.Com, Huffingtonpost.com and WhenInManila.com as well as her travel blog BrunetteAbroad.com.
While a normal trip up the Rwenzori normally goes for $800 – $1000, [more than Sh 2 million], at the coming event, one will need only Sh. 149,000, which will cater for transport from Kampala to Kasese and back, comfy 2 days accommodation and a grand party on Saturday evening at the mountain base.
“Climbing to the highest peak in real life takes six days and perhaps that’s why most Ugandans haven’t showed much interest because this may be an impediment to their work,” said UTB Deputy CEO Mr John Ssempebwa.
“That is why we are coming up with the offer, where Ugandans can have a light experience up the mountain at a small cost. After seeing the snow, the animals and all, we hope that once one gets a leave from work, they will think of nowhere else to spend it.”
The Rwenzori is the only snow-capped mountain along the equator line, with about five various vegetation zones, lot of mammals including bush bucks, hogs , cats, monkeys, “friendly” leopards, and surprisingly elephants.
The January 17 trek, according Ssempebwa will be turned into an annual event; a national day for climbing the mountain.
About 10,000 people in are expected at the event next week, from Kasese and Fort portal districts alone, where the chief walker will be Tourism Minister Hon Dr Maria Mutagamba.
The model Marlina Morena will also pay a courtesy call to the King of Rwezururu HM Charles Wesley Mumbere.
After the trek, there will be a mega fest at the base by Events 256 before the climbers checkout back to their homes on Sunday morning.
Those interested are being asked to contact Ssempebwa on 0772 390 300 for booking.
