Northern Uganda Police publicist Patrick Okema says Odongo was found near Acholi Bar and Hotel in company of three other suspected robbers identified as Francis Ayero, Bon Amin James, and Francis Otto.
It all started with Odongo hiring a boda boda rider to drop him in Gulu town. As they rode on the motorcycle, the motorist listened into Odongo’s telephone conversation with his accomplices as they plotted to ambush and rob a businessman.
Shortly after dropping his customer, the motorist sped off to Gulu Police Station where he reported Odongo’s plan.
Police quickly intervened thus busting the thieving squad.
The group was found with a UPDF Sub-machine gun registration number 48011265 and three magazines loaded with ammunition.
A motorcycle registration number, UDS 288C and Shs170, 000 were also impounded in the police operation.
Okema says the suspects are currently detained at Gulu Police Station.
Cases of indiscipline in UPDF seem to be on the rise.
Recently, a soldier shot and killed 11 people in Bombo Trading Centre.
