Police Probe Owino Fire

Deputy Police Spokesperson Vincent Ssekate says security is yet to hold suspects in the inferno.


“Our team is on the ground investigating this incident. So far we are yet to have pointers to what sparked off the fire,” Ssekate told Chimpreports on Sunday morning.

Detectives say they suspect the market was torched due to wrangles between stakeholders over management.

Members of Space & Lock-Up Shops Owners Association (SSLOA), Owino Twegatte Development Association and St. Balikuddembe Market Stalls have in the recent past been squabbling over who should manage the market.

The market, which is guarded by private security personnel, burnt at a time when no one was inside. It usually closes shop at around 8pm.
