Opposition figures, Col Kizza Besigye, Erias Lukwago among others survived death by a hair’s breadth on Friday when they were attacked by unknown thugs as they attempted to hold a rally in Kawempe Town.

However, before they could step out of their cars, Lukwago and Besigye were threatened with violence by stick-wielding men who were heard shouting “we are tired of violence and riots masterminded by opposition.”

Police say they quickly used teargas and fired in the air to disperse the riotous crowds before escorting Besigye and Lukwago back to their respective homes.
Opposition say Police connived with the goons to attack their leaders, allegations the law enforcement unit denies.
According to Wanyama, some of suspects who violently disrupted the rally have been identified as Matovu, Safik Solo, Nusaf Nakato, Sula Mutaasa and Hassan Mbulyanga.

Wanyama further noted Besigye’s driver, Fred Kato would face charges of “careless driving” and participating in an “unlawful procession.”
He, however, noted “those who hurled stones at Besigye’s car could not be identified due to chaos.”
Kampala Metropolitan South Police Commander, Steven Tanoi, said the suspects would be brought to Court on Monday after consultations with the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
