UWA Wants Share On Oil Revenue

Speaking at the organs’s general meeting at Hotel Africana on Friday, UWS Programs manager said they had embarked on traversing through the affected districts collecting views and signatures from locals that will be used to lobby with government and legislators to increase their share from oil revenue.

“UWA is currently faced with innumerable financial constraints owing to the consistent compensations to people living around national parks. Considering the harm that oil extraction process will inflict on our animals and fauna, we anticipate even more deficits in the tourism industry,” said the Executive Director UWA, Dr. Andrew Seguya.

“We thus call for government to allocate to us a considerable share of revenues from the oil revenues to boost our works which face hard spell come 2015.”


Recently, there has been growing fears backed by research by civil society organizations that in the coming years, the oil industry would thrive in the county and overshadow the entirety of wild life and tourism industry that has for long contributed substantially to the national coffers, of which matter, UWS projects manager Fred Lukumu appeals to government to create a balance in caring for both of these national resources.
