Tumusiime said from time of independence till now, Ugandan leaders have been betraying the country by not honoring their words of protecting and preserving the constitution of Uganda as a supreme law of the land.
“Unfortunately, all our leaders since independence have failed to honor the constitution and end up more powerful than the constitution thus leading the country into chaos and turmoil,” said Tumusiime.
He made the remarks at the party’s weekly press briefing in Kampala on Thursday.
Tumusiime said it is very alarming to see leaders working against the Constitution which they swore to protect and preserve and this is evident when the Executive is interfering in the work of Parliament and Judiciary.
“Our leaders are appearing to be bigger than Uganda and they have instead turned into liabilities other than assets.”
This is a country where the Judiciary only imprisons those they want and evicts those who operate in the interests of the president.
He observed the statement made by the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Aronda Nyakairima threatening to take over government was more treasonable that statements made by former spy chief Brig Henry Tumukunde while appearing on a radio station eight years ago.
Tumukunde is before the Court Martial for spreading harmful propaganda while a serving army official.
He wondered why the “patriotic” Aronda “who cares about the wellbeing of Ugandans fall short of condemning the corruption in the NRM government.”
