Pepsi Sponsors I T20 Tournament

malady geneva;”>The Pepsi ICC Africa Division 1 T20 qualifier Tournament, information pills to be played at the Lugogo and Kyambogo cricket ovals, will see five countries participating: Uganda, Nigeria, Tanzania, Kenya and Botswana.

It is from this tournament that the top two countries will move on to the world cup qualifiers scheduled to take place in Dubai in November.

This is the second time Pepsi Cola is sponsoring the tournament; the first having been in 2011 when the inaugural tournament took place in which Uganda took the title after a comprehensive six-wicket win over Namibia.

The purpose of the tournament is to get teams to represent Africa on the global stage.

Addressing a press conference at Oasis Restaurant in Lugogo on Tuesday, Justine Ligyalingi, CEO Uganda Cricket Association, said the sponsorship will go a long way in developing the sport.

“We are delighted that Pepsi has partnered with UCA once again for this event. With this sponsorship, we are confident that we will deliver a memorable event,” said Ligyalingi.

He added: “This is one of the biggest tournaments that Uganda has ever hosted. It will have a multiplier effect on the development of the sport.”

For Timothy Luzinda, Pepsi Brand Manager, the soft drinks company is looking at the partnership as a long term agreement.

“This sponsorship, which started in 2011, is one of our key commitments to cricket,” Luzinda said.

In addition to the logistical and monetary support from Crown Beverages Limited, Pepsi International, in collaboration with International Cricket Council, is supporting the full board accommodation and travel of the visiting teams.
