Kampala Metropolitan Spokesperson, Idi Ibin Ssenkumbi said the culprit has been advertising nonexistent jobs on radios and in newspapers since October 2012 and thousands of job seekers have been robbed of their money.

Various people had complained to Police about an international organization that cones people using classified adverts placed in the media and internet websites,” he added.

The suspect who is currently being detained at Jinja Road Police Station is a businessman of Nyendo/Villa Maria in Masaka but he was found with an identity card belonging to Islamic Relief Aid Uganda with his designation as the Secretary General.

Ssenkumbi said some of the advertised jobs include those of drivers, receptionist and a salary is attached to these job adverts, for example, drivers would go for shs 850,000 and receptionists shs 500,000 a month. Ssenkumbi added that this amount of money would attract applicants in big numbers and they would pay a fee which is non-refundable ranging from shs 30,000 to Shs 300,000 depending on the job applied for.

He said the culprit has been doing his work on two websites and Islamic Relief Aid. The given website in the advert, opens and has some East African, as well as European flags but top of it was a blinking word reading “Find out if your name is shortlisted” and below it reads “open jobs 3013”.
“The recent checklist that Police has discovered indicates that 100 applicants were given jobs, yet the said jobs are not there. The true/genuine organization carries the names of Child Africa on website and NOT,” said Ssenkumbi.

He adds that although there’s a big problem of unemployment in Uganda, those looking for jobs should be more careful on where to seek jobs from, because no genuine employer will ask for money in order to offer one a job.

Bayego who is currently at Kampala Central Police Station, will be charged for impersonation and obtaining money by false pretense.
Child Africa International helps out and supports children in districts of Apachi, Nakasongola, Gulu and Kasese.
