Kiprotich Wins Gold Again

website geneva;”>The runner on Sunday night triumphed in the 21km Granollers Half Marathon with an incredible 1 hour 1 minute and 15 seconds, the fastest time he has managed over a half marathon.

The Prisons officer who started the race alongside last year’s champion Spaniard Carles Castillejo broke off the pack leaving the 2012 winner with Kenya’s David Maru after only 6 km.

Later in the race, home boy Castillejo out lapped the Ugandan star but he could not match up with the Olympic champion’s pace thus settling for second to the disappointment of the mammoth Spanish fans in a race that attracted 12,000 top-class runners.

Stephen Kiprotich is well known for winning the Men’s Marathon at the London Games ending a 40 year gold medal Olympic drought for Uganda.

Kapchorwa Stadium was renamed after him in his honour.
