At least eight school girls have been married off in Kabale district since schools were closed down in March because of the Covid19 pandemic.
Of the eight, officials say, five have already become pregnant.
This was revealed by the Kabale District Senior Probation Officer Monica Muhumuza.
Speaking to our reporter on Wednesday, Muhumuza said all the cases were registered between April and August this year and most of them are from Kaharo Sub County.
Muhumuza blamed the cases on parents who have failed to take care of their children, and the Covid19 economic stress.
“I am asking parents to assume parental responsibilities of taking care of their children and stop blaming the problem on the closure of schools because of the lockdown” said Muhumuza.
