Eight National Unity Platform party members were on Saturday morning arrested in Kihihi town in Kanungu district.
The three women and five men were arrested from Equator Pub along Barageine street in Kihihi town council where they had rested after arriving from Kampala in an omnibus.
These are said to have been found with posters and other campaign materials which they planned to distribute.
Police led by the Kanungu Deputy RDC Emmy Ngabirano swung in action and arrested the 8 and detained them at Kanungu central police station.
Ngabirano while speaking to Chimpreports, confirmed their arrest saying the officials were engaging in political activities in the district without permission.
He also accused them of violating standard operating procedures of the ministry of health in the fight against the spread of Covid 19.
