54 Returnees from Middle East Test Positive for Covid-19 as Cases Rise to 8,662

The Ministry of Health has on Friday confirmed 171 new COVID-19 cases in Uganda bringing the cumulative total number of confirmed infections in the country to 8,662.

“Results from COVID-19 tests done on 2nd October 2020; 171 new COVID-19 cases confirmed. The cumulative confirmed cases of Ugandans are now 8,662,” the Health Ministry announced.

The new cases include 117 contacts and alerts, and 54 returnees.

The 117 contacts and alerts include; 43 from Masaka, 28 from Kampala, 10 from Jinja, 12 from Kole, 10 from Bukwo, 3 from Lira, 2 from Apac, 2 from Kisoro, 1 from Mukono, 1 from Namisindwa, 3 from Tororo, 1 from Wakiso and 1 from Busia.

Of the 54 returnees who tested positive for COVID-19, 48 were from Jordan, 5 from Oman and 1 from United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Currently, Uganda has a cumulative total of 8,662 COVID-19 confirmed cases, 4,546 recoveries and 79 fatalities.
