“Yes the landslides have occurred in Mbale. But we are now carrying out an assessment of the situation,” says Ntabadde,
“We will give you details after the assessment. I don’t have much to say for now,” she adds.
She promises to keep Chimpreports.com updated on the disaster.
1:52pm: Another massive landslide has Thursday hit Wanale hill on the slopes on Mount Elgon in Mbale district.
Reports coming indicate that a team of Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has been dispatched to assess the extent of the damage and establish the number of people affected.
A heavy landslide last month occurred in Bulucheke Sub County, Bumwalukani Parish, Bududa district burying Namaga and Bunakasala villages.
Over 15 people were killed.
Local authorities have reportedly been put on high alert to be able to support URCS in the conducting of a rapid vulnerability capacity assessment.
Efforts to reach URCS Publicist Catheirne Ntabadde were futile as she could hardly pick our repeated telephone calls.
