pilule geneva; font-size: small;”>On June 28, the Committee closed receiving applications with nine applicants who included Professors Venansius Baryamureeba, Tonny J. Oyana, Bizimenyera, Augustus Nuwagaba, Edward K. Kirumira, E. Katunguka Rwakishaya, Ddumba Ssentamu, Barnabas Nawangwe and Elisam Magara.

The Search Committee then held a retreat to scrutinize the nine applications.

Information from the Search Committee indicated that by last Thursday seven candidates had been shortlisted.

Magara and Bizinyera pulled out of the race.

“Today, the Search Committee has embarked on the interview process. As has been the practice (following the approval of the search guidelines by the University Council on 22nd May 2012), the Committee shall continue to work independently until when they recommend the suitable candidates to the University Senate as provided in

Section 31 (3) Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001,” said the University’s publicist Ritah Namisango.

Observers say Baryamureeba is facing a stiff challenge from economist Nuwagaba and Post Graduate School boss Katunguka as he moves to maintain his coveted job.
