5 Pinned for Vandalizing UMEME Cables

UMEME’s police unit have pinned five men before Buganda Road court grade one magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu, for tempering with electrical installations estimated at Shs. 28millions by cutting off underground electricity supply lines.

The five are Titus Sekankya 33, sildenafil Henry Tumusiime 26, Dominic Olutu 25, Rogers Twinamatsko and Enoch Senfuka.

SP Godson Sekanago, a police officer attached to UMEME told court today that he arrested the accused after he got word of their plan on September 19th to destroy underground cables in Masaka District.

He says he together with police officer laid a road block with help from police in Mpigi under the Operation Fika Salaama.

The following day he says, at around 8.30am, they stopped a white Mercedes Truck and on checking it, the suspects were found with UMEME’s electric cables.

On trying to arrest them, the officer says, one the suspects who was seated in front escaped.

“In the same truck I found hoes, an Army green bag containing a reflector jacket, three pairs of gloves, four saws, two T-shirts, a Red cap and an Atlas,” he told court.

He further stated the suspects were taken to Mpigi Police station where they were later transferred to Kireka Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

During the hearing however, the accused claimed their phones had disappeared during the arrest.

The magistrate ordered Prosecution to produce them in the next court sitting of November 30th for further hearing.
