Five Primary school head teachers in Rukiga district have been demoted over poor performance in the 2017 Primary Leaving Examinations-PLE.
The demoted head teachers are from primary schools of Rwempisi, Mugambisa, Ngoma 1, Kamutungu and Nyamishamba.
Those who were transferred and demoted to classroom teachers include; Julius Tumwesigye from Ngoma I to Nyakihanga and Robert Baguma from Rwempisi to Nyakarambi.
Mary Bakeiha, the head teacher of Nyamishamba primary school was demoted to the level of deputy and transferred to Kantare Primary School.
Hanny Turyaheebwa the Rukiga District Chief Administrative Officer says a total of 48 teachers across the district have also been reshuffled in the wake of the PLE exam results.
He adds that the demotion and reshuffle is aimed at making sure that teachers and head teachers concentrate on their work.
Out of 2032 candidates who sat last year’s PLE, 145 passed in grade one, 1024 in grade two, 446 in grade three and 251 passed in grade four. 124 candidates were ungraded while 42 never turned up for exams.
