The National Forestry Authority officials this week arrested over 40 people in the 3 districts of Ibanda, thumb Kamwenge and Buhweju.
The said group has been apprehended over illegal activities in the government forests and forest reserves.
The NFA supervisor for the three districts Mr. Joseph Otimu says the suspects are detained at police stations in their respective districts.
He said the arrested have been warned on several occasions against illegal lumbering, thumb mining, charcoal burning, tree cutting, and grazing but rmained adamant.
Two of the suspects are at Kamwenge central police station under file number SD REF: 41/20/03/2017, 6 in Buhweju CPS at Bihanga Police Post under SD REF: 14/21/03/2017, SD REF: 08/17/03/2017, 10/27/03/2017) and 15 in Ibanda CPS under SD REF: 40/10/03/2017, SD REF: 63/27/03/2017 and SD REF: 28/19/03/2017).
Among the arrested are; Josephat Ainomugisha a police officer attached to Buhweju CPS), Godfrey Nuwamani, Jackson Ndyabagye, Moses Ahalimpisa, Jonan Twebaze, Abel Alinde who were found in illegal mining, forest cutting and lumbering in Kyambura and Kyengera game reserves.
He said that out of 23 suspects, 15 were found with crosscut saws, pangas, basins; spades and a pick axes.
