A total of 37 people were on Monday arrested in an operation to clean up Kabale Municipality ahead of Easter festivities.
The operation which started at around mid-day up to 2pm was commanded by Henry Kisembo, check the head of Field Force Unit Kabale District.
Suspects were picked up from cinema halls in places like Kigongi Central Division, discount Bugongi in Northern Division while others were picked while camping at Kabale municipality cemetery in Mwanjari, Southern Division.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesman says police was forced to launch the operation by the growing public outcry over increased house break-ins and aggravated robberies.
Maate says that on investigations, police learnt that most of the criminals spend their time resting in the bushes and cinema halls while smoking marijuana during the day waiting to give locals sleepless nights.
He adds that police was helped by crime preventers to identify the locations where suspects were resting from. He says that some of the suspects were found with knives, while others were found with rolls of marijuana.
