Three officials from two government ministries have been arraigned before the Anti- corruption court and charged with four counts of embezzlement, causing financial loss, abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud.
The accused are Issa Gumonye, the Assistant Commissioner for Urban administration, Mbala Ronald an Urban Officer, both from the Ministry of Local Government, as well as Prossy Nampijja a senior Urban Officer in the Ministry of Lands.
The suspects were arrested by the Inspector General of Government on allegations that during the financial year of 2014- 2015 in Kampala, while employed in the Ministry of Local Government, they conspired and stole over 200 million shillings.
These appeared before the Anti-corruption court chief magistrate Pamela Lamunu where they pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The state prosecutor Farooq Lubega informed court that inquiries into the matter are still underway.
The duo through their lawyer Asuman Nyonyintono, applied for and were granted bail having presentd substantial witnesses.
They were released on a cash bail of 10million shillings each while their 6 sureties were bonded at a non-cash bail of 100milion each.
They have been ordered to return to court on the 6th August 2019.
