EALA Speaker, Zziwa Calls For Empowerment of Women in Politics

Zziwa noted that the only way Uganda can arrive to the 2015 millennium development goals is by paving a way forward for women leaders and those in politics by creating a conducive Environment for women participation in the country’s development.

treatment geneva;”>Citing out the former and first woman Vice President, Dr. Specioza Wandiira Kazibwe, and Hon Rebecca Kadaga, Zziwa applauded the government for promoting women in politics and asked government to continue with the intervention by empowering women in decision making positions.

Commenting on the sad note on the ongoing women harassment, the EALA speaker has tasked government to completely suffocate all unfriendly environments to women like the female genital mutilation, early marriages, and child trafficking by involving men in matching forward the women in democracy.

At the same event, Rukia Nakadama, the State Minister for Gender and Cultural Affairs also asked government to recognize the commendable progress that has been brought about by women especially those in politics and to further to give them room for them to uplift their fellow women who are still facing oppression at the grass roots.


The conference was attended by women in leadership from several countries which included Uganda, Sierra Leon, Kenya, Tanzania among others.
