He, however, called on the 10 chiefs who attended the ceremony to reach out to His Highness Chief Columbus Wambuzi to join them and work for the development of Busoga Kingdom and of Uganda general.
The Busoga Lukiiko is slated to elect Kyabazinga from among the 11 chiefs of the kingdom in the next 20 days.
Mr. Museveni told the gathering that the restoration of cultural institutions was very well considered with the main purpose of preserving our cultural heritage especially the indigenous languages that are very rich and closely linked among all the people in the country.
He encouraged the people of Busoga to eradicate household poverty by embracing modern commercial farming. He said, much as maize and sugar-cane are very important crops in the area, their cultivation should be left to people with huge chunks of land.
President Museveni, therefore, advised families with small land holdings to adopt the 1995 NRM Manifesto plan of intensive commercial farming.
The President explained that on a 4-acre piece of land, one can grow clonal coffee, fruits, food crops and elephant grass for dairy farming. At the backyard, poultry, piggery, apiary could thrive adding that people who live near swamps can embrace fish farming. Mr. Museveni further advised families with smaller pieces of land to grow onions, cabbages and mushrooms.
The President conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the people of Busoga upon the sudden death of one of the elders J.J. Isabirye, whom he described as a personal friend. The late Isabirye collapsed at the ceremony yesterday and was pronounced dead on reaching Jinja Hospital.
The Lukiiko inauguration ceremony was attended by Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament and Leaders from Busoga Sub-Region.
