In catholic faith, a deacon is a person who is ordained, not yet taken priestly vows but only waiting to be consecrated as a priest and take vows.

John Baptist Odam Bishop Gulu Archdiocese while speaking as chief guest at the graduation asked the deacons to go and preach the gospel of truth to the world for peace and harmony to prevail.

He strongly warned them against earthly treasures that may affect their missionary work.

Bishop Odam instead asked the deacons to focus on priestly calling and avoid earthly temptations by putting God in the centre of their work.

During the mass the Archbishop announced the coming of Fr. Lazarous Luyinda, the Vice rector St Paul’s National Major seminary, from Kasana in Luwero Diocese as the acting Rector.

His appointment follows the recent appointment of former rector Fr. Francis Aquinas Kibira as the Bishop of Kasese Diocese.

The outgoing rector Fr. Kibira Francis Aquinas said that since the existence of St Paul’s National seminary in 1996 they have produced 430 priests who are serving in different Dioceses in Uganda.

The function was witnessed by the Bishop Robert Muhirwa of Fort Portal, Bishop Emeritus Lambert Bainomugisha Bishop of Hoima Diocese among other clergy.
