President Yoweri Museveni has official been nominated as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Flag Bearer for next year’s presidential elections.
Museveni was nominated at the NRM head offices in Kampala by Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda at the event presided over by the party electoral commission chairman Dr Tanga Odoi.
Odoi said Museveni, 75, had fulfilled all the requirements for the process.
“The candidate is now nominated for the NRM Presidential flag and we can now forward him to the CEC and NEC to do the needful,” Odoi said.
“As the NRM we have no doubt that we have the best candidate for the forthcoming election.”
Odoi said the nomination window would still be open up to 5pm today and would not be extended.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Museveni said the NRM was preparing to put out a manifesto of what they intend to do in the next five years.
The committee which is compiling the Manifesto, he said, will endeavour to highlight most of the achievements that the NRM government has achieved such as elevating Uganda’s literacy to the current 75%.
“The next 5-year term according to Museveni, will be focused on “Deepening prosperity and modernization.”
This he said, is intended to expand Uganda’s income base to ensure that there is enough market of the goods and services that are currently being produced in large quantities, especially in the agricultural sector.
The manifesto, he said will also emphasize the issue of regional integration which he said has remained a hindrance to the development of the region.
“We are having all these problems now; even a simple disease like Corona can’t be controlled because different countries in the region are doing different things”
“We want to continue talking to the (regional) leaders to work for the federation”
