The Vice-Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in the Eastern region Mike Mukula has revealed that they are in the process of unveiling one of the largest numbers of people crossing from opposition parties to NRM.
Mukula said that following the Monday event where a number of opposition members at both leadership and lower levels publicly declared that they have joined NRM, he has been overwhelmed by calls from numerous individuals seeking to join the party too.
“I have been receiving endless calls from a number of prominent opposition members and NRM grass-root leadership requesting to fix a program for them to publicly declare that they have crossed to the ruling party,” Mukula revealed.
Among the areas where these defections have been registered include Nakawa, Busoga and Teso region.
He, however, pointed out that due to the COVID-19 preventive guidelines, these will be unveiled and welcomed to NRM in their areas while observing social distancing.
“I can’t mention the names but what I am assuring you is that we are going to have a massive crossover from the opposition,” he added.
While responding to those who reportedly refer to Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party as a branch of NRM, Mukula said that this is not true but it is being spread by people from one of the opposition parties which are against ANT’s strategy.
“What I can say is that the two parties have ideological differences where one believes in defiance and violence well as the other believes in mobilization and building grass-root structures,” Mukula asserted.
The increased number of people crossing to NRM has been based on the hardworking mobilizers at grass root level as well as organized leadership, Mukula added.
