Following the conclusion of presidential nominations on Tuesday, the Electoral Commission has released campaign dates for nominated candidates.
11 candidates were nominated by the Electoral Commission to run for president.
They include; Patrick Amuriat Oboi of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party, Joseph Kabuleta (Independent), Nancy Kalembe Linda (Independent), John Katumba (Independent), Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of National Unity Platform (NUP) party, Nobert Mao of the Democratic Party (DP), Willy Mayambala (Independent), Mugisha Muntu Gregg of Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) party, Fred Mwesigye (Independent), Henry Tumukunde (Independent) and the incumbent Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
According to the statement issued by the Electoral Commission Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama on Wednesday evening, the campaigns will be conducted between November 9, 2020 to January 12, 2021.
“Following the conclusion of the above nomination exercise, the Electoral Commission has appointed the period from 9th November 2020 until 12th January 2021 for the purpose of conducting candidates’ campaigns meetings for presidential elections 2021,” he said.
As earlier communicated by the Commission spokesperson Paul Bukenya, Byabakama reiterated that the Commission has appointed 14th January 2021 as polling date for presidential elections 2021.
“The Electoral Commission urges all nominated candidates, their agents, supporters and the general public to carefully observe the guidelines that have been issued by the Electoral Commission for this campaign period,” Byabakama added.
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, all political rallies and gatherings have been banned by the Electoral Commission.
