The President was meeting the traditional King of Lango, Yosam Odur Ebii and his delegation at State House Entebbe, according to Sarah Kagingo, the President’s Special Assistant for Communications.
The President told the delegation that Lango sub region and the northern region in general are benefiting from the prevailing peace and stability with trade booming and a robust construction sector growing.
He, however, said grassroots people need to be part of this development by engaging in enterprises that can bring in income and also ensure food security.
Chief Odur commended the President for the love and commitment he has towards the people of Lango and for supporting their sons and daughters at various levels including paying medical bills and providing education.
“Me as the grandfather of Lango and the custodian of Culture, I return all thanks to you. You also gave us three ministers at a go, if they are not handling their jobs well that is their fault,” he said.
He hailed the President for his reconciliatory spirit and for supporting the cultural institution to mobilise their children in the Diaspora to return home and contribute to the development of their region and country.
“That rare heart you have is difficult to have under the sun. It is even rare that you reconcile with your opponents and come together. The Langi were very happy with the recent law against homosexuality. We were all looking forward to your signature on that law. That was done, thank you,” he said.
He further urged the President to consider supporting the construction of a palace for Langi traditional leaders which will also act as a museum for Langi cultural artefacts.
The palace, according to the cultural leader, will help unite the people of Lango and consolidate the peace and stability there.
