2 Refugees Killed in Nakivale Shooting, Police Tightens Camp Security

Police in Isingiro are hunting for a group of armed assailants who attacked a refugee village and killed 2 people.

The deceased were identified as Augustine Muhizi 45, a refugee businessman dealing in produce (beans, maize, sorghum) and Ishimwe Kyuzuzo Deo, a male juvenile aged 16, both residents of Juru ‘A’ village, in Ngarama Sub county, Isingiro district.

According to locals in Isingiro, the shooting took place on Sunday in the trading centre of Nakivale settlement camp at about 2100hours.

The Rwizi region police mouthpiece Samson Kasasira said the attackers were on a robbery mission because they came asking for money.

Muhizi however, refused to surrender the money and the attackers shot him in the chest and took off with his Shs. 38Million on a motorcycle.

The thugs went ahead to fire several bullets, killing one and injuring 4 people who had started to gather.

The injured were rushed to Mbarara referral hospital where most of them are steadily recovering from injuries according to police.

The deceased were taken to Mbarara hospital for postmortem.


Police visited the scene and one suspect was arrested to help with the investigations.

Police also re-enforced Nakivale settlement camp with FFU personnel.
