He said the fights between supporters of rival candidates in the NRM primaries during the weekend and Monday left several people nursing life-threatening wounds at Mbarara Referral hospital.

“People are taking laws in their hands and are busy attacking my supporters. There is divisionism, purchase hatred, distribution of money and alcohol more than in any other district in western Uganda,” he cried out.

According to medical sources, one of those admitted at Mbarara Hospital passed away on Monday evening, bringing the death toll in the Kashari election violence to two.

Bamwiine said a deeper investigation into acts of brutality should be investigated and culprits brought to book.

He further urged police to “make heavy deployments with the view of stopping the distribution of money and other items to buy votes in the area.”

Bamwiine advised the people to use authorities to settle their differences instead of taking laws in their hands.

“It’s not good to use wrong procedures in winning elections. All Kashari needs is water and development like any other constituency but not violence,” said Bamwiine.

Mbarara DPC Jaffar Magyezi said police are investigating the violence with the view of arresting culprits.
