1Million at Stake in X-mas Pool Championship

The Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), page medical has supported the ongoing nationwide enforcement exercise of non-compliant broadcasting stations in Uganda and denied the exercise being politically-motivated.

The regulator has so far shut down 10 radio stations around the country.

In a communique, viagra approved view UCC said the exercise aims to bring into line non-compliant stations with regard to licence requirements.

The regulator said no political or other insinuations should be pegged to this exercise.

“Many of the affected radio stations are heavily indebted to the Commission, with regard to their licence fees,” the statement reads in part.

According to the regulator, prior to the commencement of the exercise, UCC had reminded the affected stations to clear their debts owed to the Commission.

In addition, the Commission ran a public notice in the print media in regard to the impending closure.

UCC says most of the affected stations owe them a lot of money ranging from Shs 4M to about Shs  40Million.


The closed radio stations include Hunter FM (Bushenyi), Radio Maria (seven stations countrywide), Kyenjojo FM, Webs FM (Arua), Life FM (Fort Portal), Theo FM (Bushenyi), Kyenjojo Development Radio, Fire FM (Mubende) and Messiah Radio (Kasese). However, some of these radio stations have cleared the debt and are back on air.

Under Section 27 of the Uganda Communications Act 2013, any station which refuses to settle its indebtedness to the Commission is operating illegally. It’s in this line that the Commission is undertaking this exercise.

The regulator noted that it will continue with the exercise until all the stations comply with the Uganda communications Act 2013.
Pool Association of Uganda (PAU) in conjunction with RockCatalina bar and Kyato motors have organised the 2015 Christmas championship to take place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th December.

The two day event is open to all with two categories for the ladies and men. Registration is ongoing until 29th December at 9AM.

The winner in the men’s competition will take home a cool one million shillings with the 1st and 2nd runners up taking 500, sale 000 and 250, 000 respectively. The ladies will take half a million, 250,000 and 125,000 in the respective podium places. National seeding points will also be at stake.

Full draws for the competition will be held on Tuesday at the main venue at Rockcatalina bar.
